Office of Sustainability

Welcome to Colorado College, where sustainability isn't optional; it's central to our community and the examples we set through all our work. We aspire to make Colorado College a model for sustainability at all levels, embodying our commitment to a thriving future, and honoring the economic, social, and environmental narratives of our complex ecosystem.

Since 2008, our commitment to sustainability has been steadfast. Colorado College achieved carbon neutrality, a testament to our dedication outlined in the Carbon Commitment, formerly known as the American College and University President's Climate Commitment. The efforts of the Office of Sustainability, campus stakeholders, and the Colorado Springs community, alongside initiatives in facilities, construction, and maintenance, have been pivotal in reducing our carbon footprint.

The Office of Sustainability, established in 2013, is led by Director Ian Johnson and supported by a program manager, teams of student interns, and dedicated volunteers. Together, they work on independent projects often embedded in various campus offices. The office's mission is to foster communication, collaboration, and coordination between the college and stakeholders in the broader community.
